Job Description

As a mechanical design engineer, you will be required to plan, executive, design, and build the mechanical devices, components and tools for industrial machinery; develop and test prototypes, and work closely with the manufacturing teams to ensure that design specifications are met. This position also needs to perform engineering duties in planning and designing tools, engines, machines and other mechanically functioning equipment; and overseeing the installation, operations, maintenance, and repair of such equipment.

 

The three key areas involved are:​

  1. Research and Development

    • Assessing new products and innovations and building prototypes.​

  2. Design

    • Turning research ideas into technical plans using computer-aided design (CAD) and computer modelling programs.​

  3. Production

    • Improving production processes, and planning and supervising the installation of machinery and parts in line with design plans and timescales.​

Responsibilities

Support the Project Director/Manager in the following:

  • Meeting with clients and design teams to determine mechanical applications and requirements.

  • Conducting research to inform the design and engineering methods required for the mechanical/electrical systems.

  • Planning and preparing mechanical/electrical designs using SolidWorks, AutoCAD, Pro/E programmes.

  • Performing computer simulations and experiments to virtually test and refine the designs.

  • Overseeing the development and manufacturing of physical prototypes for testing.

  • Documenting all the projects’ design processes, iterations, and test analytics.

  • Managing project timelines, resources, and budgets.

  • Liaising with clients, vendors, project team, and manufacturers to ensure coherence.

  • Preparing technical reports, design specifications documents, and operational manuals.

  • Keeping abreast of the latest advancements in technology, design trends, and engineering best practices.

  • Monitoring and planning the project's progression

  • Analysing reports, maps, drawings, tests, and other relevant data to plan and design the work

  • Conducting failure investigation, performing defect diagnosis, and providing engineering support for all technical issues

  • Recommending and evaluating the ways to improve the project’s effectiveness and productivity

  • Providing engineering support for projects regarding parts obsolescence issues and improvements to increase components’ reliability and systems availability

  • Providing advice on all engineering issues and requirements


Qualifications

  • Diploma or higher in Mechatronics, Mechanical Engineering or equivalent

  • Have work experience in Mechanical, Design and Assembly is an advantage

  • Ability to use CAD software, such as SolidWorks AutoCAD, Pro/E

  • Ability to handle site and project implementation works

  • Ability to work independently, and as a team, and is self-motivated

  • Computer literate, uses Microsoft Office (Words, Excel, PowerPoint).

  • Good written and verbal communication, interpersonal and presentation skills in English.

  • Good problem-solving skills and a creative approach for new ideas.

  • Good organizational skills.

  • Ability to prioritise and plan effectively.

  • Ability to work under pressure and deadlines.

  • Ability to adapt to changes in a fast-paced environment.
